The Why Behind Wish Week
Wish Week is a week full of events that Chi Omega hosts every year to raise money for our national philanthropy, Make-A-Wish. Specifically, we raise money for our Wish Kid so that their wish can be granted! This year, our Wish Kid is Creed, and his wish is to have a fishing boat!
This past week was our Wish Week, and we had a variety of events that we hosted. On Monday, we held a Benefit Day with 39759 Nutrition. On Tuesday, we had Dishes for Wishes, a dinner that our family and friends can attend, at our house. For this, we served sliders and fries, and we had the best time welcoming everyone into our home for the first time in over a year! This was very special to us considering the circumstances of the past year. On Wednesday, we had a worship and service night at our house for our members. At this event, we wrote notes and brought donations for the patients and families at Children’s of Mississippi and then ended the night with worship and an incredible speaker, Jo Beth Murphree. Then on Thursday, we had Limelight! Limelight is a dance competition between the sororities and fraternities that we host at the Humphrey Coliseum. This event is always a crowd favorite! This year, we had around 3,000 in-person attendees and 600 on our live-stream to watch the performers and to honor Creed. This was an amazing end to an incredible week, and we were so thankful that Creed and his family got to attend Limelight this year so that we could show him how excited we were to raise money for his wish!
As Chi Omega’s philanthropy chair, it is so special to me to be able to plan and host these events for our Wish Kid. They are the reason behind everything we do. I think it is so important to find ways to give back to others, and I love that our chapter has the opportunity to do this through Make-A-Wish. By looking for ways to serve others, we gain so much perspective on what is really important in life. My hope is that this mindset is one that our chapter takes into the rest of our lives and that we will always strive to seek out those in need. I am beyond thankful for the way Chi Omega has shaped me in this way and am so honored to have been trusted to plan this year’s Wish Week! Now let’s get Creed his boat!!
