Maintaining a Healthy College Lifestyle
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is hard, and it becomes even harder once you get in college. However, it is not impossible, so I am going to give you my best advice on how to create and maintain a healthy college lifestyle.
My biggest and first advice on maintaining a healthy lifestyle in college is to create a routine and stick to that routine as much as possible. Sometimes it can be difficult to have a routine in college since every day looks different. First, I think it is so important to wake up and go to sleep around the same time everyday, and try your best to get 7 to 9 hours of sleep every day. I usually try to go to sleep by 12 am and wake up by 9 am. This gives me plenty of sleep and enough time during the day to complete all of my tasks.
Another tip to stick to a routine is to get a good planner. I love my Erin Condren academic planner. I usually sit down on Sunday nights and plan out my whole week. I make sure to write any classes, assignments, or events that I have going on that week. Being able to see everything you need to do and when you are going to do it is so helpful and helps you to not get overwhelmed.
My next advice is to move your body each day. It does not have to be anything major, but exercising makes your mind and body feel so much better. Personally, I like to lift weights at the gym and go to Pure Barre, but different things work for different people. Most gyms and workout classes offer free trial periods, so I recommend trying out a bunch of different things and finding what works best for you! Not only does working out help your body, but it also relieves stress and improves your mood. A walk around Chadwick Lake or campus is always a great option if you need a quick workout!
Along with working out, eating as healthy as possible helps so much. I know that it is hard to always eat healthy in college, especially in the dorms, but trying to get three balanced meals in a day at least five days a week helps improve your routine, mood, and overall health. If you struggle to get your fruits and vegetables in, making a smoothie is my favorite thing to do, and you can do this in your dorm! I love to put spinach, avocado, and my favorite fruits in my smoothies.
Another thing that helps create a healthy college lifestyle is to take quiet time each day to reflect. I love waking up and reading a quick devotional in the morning. This just sets your day up in the best way. I also like to sometimes journal at the end of the night. Journaling helps me to reflect on the day and write all memories down that I do not want to forget. College can be so overwhelming, so I think that it is so important to give yourself this quiet time at least once in your day.
Creating a healthy lifestyle in college is an adjustment but not impossible at all. Living in a healthy routine helps so many things including your grades, mental health, physical health, and so much more! Different things work for different people, but I hope these few tips help you to create a healthy college lifestyle!
