The In-Between Moments of College
“We live our lives in the in-between.” I heard this from one of my biggest role models a few months ago, and as graduation approaches, I have reflected on this idea a lot. Reminiscing about college memories often includes the highlights – the big events or the grand occasions. I look back on the highlight reel of these four years very fondly, but I have also found that some of my fondest memories are found in the little moments in-between. Here are a few of my favorite ones!
· A BFF running in your room for outfit help while you are finishing up your mascara
· Planning a 21st birthday party for one of your best friends
· A “Did you get home ok?” text
· Seeing a familiar face and a wave on your walk back from class
· Catching up with your little (or grand-little, or great grand-little) waiting in line for lunch
· Friends on the TV while you and your roommates study in your cozy living room
· Walking into chapter on Monday night to see your besties saved you a seat
· “Can I borrow this shirt?” “Of course!”
· A movie in the Activity Room
· A ride to class in the rain
· A facetime call to hear about a first date
· The walk to your favorite Mexican restaurant on a Thursday afternoon
· As cliché as it is… Bachelor Mondays!
· Sit-down dinner at the senior table with Mama Fran
· A mid-week baseball game in the Spring, hot-dog in hand
· Late-night runs to local culture
· When the late-night study session goes past midnight and everyone is delirious
· Telling stories at lunch
· Helping your roommate pick her dress for the date party
· Dancing with your girls right in front of the band
· Ordering your caps and gowns (How did that one get here so quickly?)
If I think of college like one big graph (sorry, biochemistry major here!), the points on that graph for us are definitely the big moments – running home on bid day, going to the date party, getting the call that you got into professional school or got that big girl job. But just like on any line graph, the space is mainly taken up by the lines in-between those points. For those just starting your time here, I hope you enjoy that in-between, and for you girls that are about to finish up your time here, I hope you enjoyed them just as much as I did.
