Beyond the Glamour of Bid Day
Wow! Looking back on bid day I cannot help but smile! Running home to Chi Omega in my brand new letters was the absolute BEST feeling in the entire world! So much so, I would recreate that day if I could! However, the reality is that life moves on after the glitz and glamour of bid day, and you now have four years to soak in many more memories with these new sisters of yours. To me, being in a sorority is so much more than what the public eye considers it to be. To me, being in a sorority is about the friendships you develop, the experiences you gain, and the memories you make.
The moment I opened my bid card my freshman year, I immediately gained 92 best friends who had also just opened their bid card and recognized the Chi O crest. The way that a pledge class in a sorority bonds is so special and awesome to watch(and even more awesome to be a part of)! Throughout the period of bonding, you realize how much you and your new sisters have in common! In my pledge class I’ve found every type of friend from great companions to go on walks with, watch movies with, or go on road trips with.
After bid day, I truly learned what it looked like to be a Chi Omega. It meant being welcomed with open arms to lunch at the house on the first day. It meant endless intentional conversations spent on the rocking chairs. And, it meant women who will hopefully be my forever friends. I’ve found Chi O to be a place where women of all ages eat meals together, study together, and even make Tik Toks together. I have absolutely made the best friends here and so many of those are not my age, some of them being older, some of them being younger, but overall they have all taught me so many things about being a confident and classy woman. Because of Chi O, I have been able to have so many role models to cling to in times of trouble, when I need advice, or even just a hug.
Although bid day will always be one of my favorite memories as a Chi Omega, I have made so many other memories that will last a lifetime. These memories vary from sisterhood events to social functions, late nights at the house studying (but really just goofing off) to Sunday afternoons in Hathorn, and philanthropy events to cherishing every conversation had at the dining room tables. The list could go ON AND ON about how much I love Chi O and how many memories I have made with such amazing sisters. But, the most important thing to realize about joining greek life is that it is so much more than an instagram post on Bid Day.
